Tuesday 9th February; THE FINAL STEP!

Video is completely edited as of the 5th!

Now to import the video into GarageBand and match it up to our soundtrack we created before.

DONE! As a group we feel happy with our video, here it is....

Friday 5th February; Target Walking Shots

As mentioned, we decided to re-film Harri's walking shots. This time without the sharp whistle, with no sound at all.

This took about 10 minutes, in which time Ayo and myself added a few effect to show 'Directed by' and 'Produced by' banners over the bottom of the film using iMovie.

With everything uploaded and edited and 'perfect'. We had one step left :) !
Thursday 28th January; Soundtrack and music effects

With our new knowledge of GarageBand, we managed to complete the soundtrack to our sequence.

We used soft piano at the start to keep the tension low as the audience wouldn't know what was going to happen, then used rock guitars during the flashback fight scene, used gun shot sounds when needed, and added a sample phone dial for the last few seconds of the video when Vee is on the phone to Guled - The Boss.

Aswell as a universal sounding track for the production companies.

When Harri - The Target - walked from the lift to the 'office' he was whistling, however we felt that the sound created from Harri's whistle was very harsh and the soft piano with this sound didn't create a good effect, so we decided we will need to re-film the walking shots.

Thursday 14th January; Time to re-film.

Yes, you heard correctly, we're re-filming the office scenes due to poor lighting I mentioned in one of my earlier posts.

We filmed an extra four shots for the flashback also to give extra action and as our group agree, makes it feel more action packed and look alot better than before.

As we knew what we had to film for the second half with poor lighting and how to film these shots, we captured quickly and quickly imported them back onto iMovie to edit and choose the desired shots.

With this completed it gave us time to use 'livetype' another application on the iMac's to give our production companys a professional look for our credits.

These are the outcome of our groups hard work to produce a profeesional look. They are video, but screenshots for the blog.
Tuesday 12th January; GarageBand and decisions.

Our group once again spent another hour practising with Garageband, although with the lack of samples we had, we found it hard to create a suitable background track. Then decided to keep it simplistic and use strings in the beginning.

We also decided on the extra shots to be used within the new flashback as mentioned earlier.
Friday 8th January; Back from christmas :) & action shots

During the christmas holidays, our group discussed a few changes that would be made to our film.

The exposure from the sun made the shot seem darker than it actually was, so we decided do film the shots from the 'Environmental Suite' with the lights on.

Although this may portray a different look other than we were going for, - a dark office atmosphere - we felt that it would benefit our film as the lighting is more effecient throughout.

This was further discussed during lesson whilst getting to grips with a new application 'GarageBand' on the iMac's.

With only an hour to play with this new feature to us, we felt that we needed to get used to it before deciding on exactly what we desired for our sequence.

Tuesday

Thursday 10th December; Flashback
We filmed the 'fighting scene' sequence, where 'Vee' is beating up Morris' bodyguard - Ayo.
The filming will show that it is a flashback of an event that has happened previously and will be shown in between conversation of 'Vee' and 'Morris'.

1- Vee punches Ayo.
2- Vee tackles Ayo into the desk, papers fly off the table.
3- Vee drags Ayo across the desk and papers fly off the edge of the table.
4- Ayo falls off the table and lands in a heap.
5- You see Ayo on the floor with the sound of Vee cocking the gun in the background.

After we filmed we edited the scenes changing the colour of each cut to become black and white. With the black and white shots, it is clear for the audience that this is in fact a flashback.

UPDATE--
With the comments/feedback from other sources, we felt that we had to include more action within the flashback. This will be shown within the completed video at the top of the blog.

Wednesday 9th December; Storyboarding

With our new idea for our movie, we created the basic storyboard.
- 24 shots.

UPDATE --
This only contained 24 cuts, as later we decided to add extra shots to form the majority of the sequence and to improve our film further.

Tuesday 8th December; Initial Idea's as a Group

As a group, we sat down and discussed possibilities for our movie idea. We still felt we should keep in with the idea of the 'Morris I wan't him dead' by using myself as once again the hitman - Vee.

From earlier posts you can see that Guled - The Boss hired me to kill 'Morris'.

So we felt that our movie would be a collection of jobs given to Vee, and executed during the movie as if you were infact watching all the jobs he had been asked to do by the boss.

We felt that to grab the audiences attention there would have to be a reasonable amount of violence within the opening 2 minutes, to aswell as capture their attention but to also give a basic plot to the story that unfolds.

So with all this in mind, we decided to come up with the basic idea's for the plot.

- Vee would infiltrate Morris' office.
- Come across two guards, within the office.
- Deal with both guards, and then wait for the main target to arrive. -- For this idea to work we would have to show the past 'flashbacks' which I will comment on later withing this blog.
- There will be a short conversation between the hitman and the target, with the target then being assasinated/executed.

'The 5th Column' - Has a slight ring to it, after researching idea's for names, we came across this outstanding sounding name.

The actual meaning of 5th column is this;
"A fifth column is a group of people who undermine a larger group, such as a nation, from within, to the aid of an external enemy."

We felt this was an effective name for an assasin based film, as to be an assasin you are to be unrecognized and unnoticed.

Tuesday 1st December; Analysis of Popular Films within our genre.

Lucky Number Slevin

- Non-diagetic sound creates atmosphere.
- Slow cuts near the start of the sequence, faster cuts to show violence/element of action.
- Violence from the start shows how the film will follow on, an action/thriller with alot of fast paced scenes with violence.
- The use of the notebook for credits, as - if you've seen the film - it is an important element within the film itself.

Goldeneye

- The use of guns and women in the opening title scene is very often coupled to that of a James Bond film,  which 'Goldeneye' is in fact on of them.
- With most action films, a gun is often the choice of weapon, so if you incorporate a firearm into the opening sequence the audience will then know the genre and basic elements of the plot, without actually seeing any of the film, if they hadn't before.

The Terminator

- The typography of this sequence is very much sharp/rigid to connote the general features of a robot/machine.
- With such a minimalistic approach to an audience grabbing sequence, the music is therefore used to set the mood, and to give the audience an idea of the genre and what is to come.

Of the 3 analysed, we feel as a group that 'Lucky Number Slevin' has the most comparative points to what we hope for from our sequence.
Tuesday 17th November; Saul Bass

12th November; Morris I Want Him Dead - Final

Here it is. Our finished version of 'Morris I Want Him Dead'
Complete with music, and effects in credits.

Thursday

Tuesday 3rd Novemeber; Takers Trailer

We first watched trailers for movies in the same genre as we wanted, and one that stuck out the most was Takers.

We like the use of gun loading sounds, and we may include this in our own title sequence for our action film.
Thursday 5th November; Morris. I want him dead - Updated Version.

We were advised that if we were to reach the highest grade possible then our group would have to re-film our video so that these few points were corrected;
The poor lighting.
Poor continuity.

Friday 16th October; Camera Angles

We created 2 Videos showing the camera angles required, 'Harri begs it too much' and 'Table tennis'.

We had to include tilt shots, pan and also tracking in our video.

Harri begs it too much;

It started off with a tilt following Harri and Guled walking down the room, it then shows a low angle shot looking up at Guled showing that he is superior, followed by a high angle looking at Harri with a short dialogue.

Table Tennis;

Our main video which consisted all of the shots required started with a pan of Me (Matthew Venis) walking towards the table, it then tracks out to see the whole table. When tracking we should have made it smoother, after the tracking it finishes with end titles "Guled 11 - 237 Venis".

Morris. I want him dead - Draft Video

Here is our video, although unfinished.

We still need to include credits with music over the top, aswell as an opening title for the film.

*After talking with the group we decided that all the shots we took were too dark, so we decided to retake the whole of our film with lights on.*

Started Filming....

We started filming the first part of our coursework on thursday that show the 3 types of camera techniques required; Match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule.

We should hopefully get the rest of the filming done next week then we can edit it on the Macs.
